Blocks for June

Block 7 - June 8

You will need –

  • 1 medium hexagon.  This is an ideal piece to fussy cut.
  • 6 small rectangles in a medium toned print
  • 6 tiny right angled triangles in a light toned print
  • 6 tiny right angled triangles in a dark toned print.  These triangles must be mirror image to the light toned triangles

Join the right angled triangles into 6 light/dark sets. Check the orientation of each set is correct.

Join a triangle set to each end of 3 of the rectangles.

Join the remaining 3 rectangles to alternate sides of the hexagon.

Join the triangle/rectangle sections to the centre section to complete the block.

Block 8 - June 10

You will need –

  • 2 medium diamonds in a medium toned fabric
  • 2 small triangles in a light toned fabric
  • 6 small triangles in a dark toned fabric
  • 6 medium diamonds in a light toned fabric

Join the 2 small triangles to the 2 medium toned diamonds. Ensure that the orientation of pieces are correct.

Join these 2 sections together to create a hexagon.

Join the dark toned triangles to each edge of the hexagon.  This can be done as a continuous row of stitching.

Add the remaining light coloured diamonds to the outer edge.  Again this can be completed in a continuous row of stitching.

Block 9 - June 16

You will need –

  • 4 kite shapes in a medium toned fabric
  • 2 elongated hexagons in a dark toned fabric
  • 2 small diamonds in a light toned fabric
  • 2 small triangles in a light toned fabric

Join the kite sections to either side of the elongated hexagons.  Make 2 identical sets, ensuring the orientation of the pieces is correct.

Add a small diamond and triangle to each completed section.

Join the 2 sections together to complete the block.

Block 10 - June 21

You will need –

  • 3 large half hexagons in a dark toned fabric
  • 3 large half hexagons in a different dark toned fabric
  • 3 small half hexagons in a light toned fabric
  • 3 small half hexagons in a dark toned fabric
  • 2 small diamonds in a light toned fabric
  • 2 small triangles in a medium toned fabric

Join together 2 pairs of large half hexagons and 2 pairs of small half hexagons.

Join the small and large half hexagon sections together.

Join a small diamond to the centre of each section.

Join the remaining pieces into 2 large triangles.

Join a large triangle section to each of the completed half hexagon units.  Join the 2 halves to complete the block.

Block 11 - June 22

You will need –

  • 6 large triangles in a dark toned fabric
  • 6 elongated honeycomb shapes in a medium toned fabric.  I have fussy cut these from a large checked fabric.

Add a triangle to the side of each honeycomb shape.  Repeat for all 6 units.

Stitch the 6 units together to form a circle.  You may find it easier to stitch into 3 sets of pairs and join to complete the block.

Block 12 - June 30

You will need –

  • 1 medium hexagon in a light toned fabric.  I fussy cut this unit.
  • 6 small triangles in a dark toned fabric
  • 6 small diamonds in a medium toned fabric
  • 6 small diamonds in a medium toned fabric but an obvious contrast to the other small diamonds
  • 6 small diamonds in a light toned fabric
  • 6 small triangles in the same light toned fabric

Join the 6 small dark toned triangles to the centre hexagon.  This can be done using a continuous row of stitching.

Join the medium triangles into pairs ensuring the placement is the same for all 6 sets.

Join these units to the centre section using a continuous row of stitching.

Join the remaining light toned diamonds and triangles to the outer edge, again using a continuous row of stitching.
